![]() NJHL Becomes Sanctioned By AAU The NJHL is pleased to announce, they have reached an agreement to sanction the league with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), beginning with the 2010-2011 season. The NJHL will become the first ever class "junior A" minor league hockey league to become sanctioned by AAU. It is an important step for the league to be able to put the very best product on the ice. This agreement will allow the league to grow to new levels and continue to give young hockey players an opportunity to advance their careers. The NJHL members unanimously decided this was the right direction for the league. It will give the league national exposure and is an important step in protecting the players and staff of each organization. A NJHL spokesman stated “This is a great step for the league and the players. We are proud to be the first junior hockey league to be sanctioned by AAU. We are committed to protection and well being of our players above all.” AAU Hockey Director Keith Noll had this to say “We are very please to have the Northern Junior Hockey League join AAU. We look forward to a long standing working relationship one that provides ultimate protection first and foremost for the players but also the organizations and their buildings.” About AAU The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in sport. During its early years the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by over 500,000 participants and over 50,000 volunteers More information can be found by visiting the AAU website at http://aausports.org Shane Hicke Joins NAHL's Port Huron, Team President Rick Szabo Becomes Head Coach ![]() Bruins President Rick Szabo Troy, OH – The Troy Bruins Hockey Team is proud to announce that Head Coach Shane Hicke has accepted the position of Associate Head Coach for the NAHL’s Port Huron Fighting Falcons, set to take the ice at McMoran Arena in Port Huron, Michigan this October. Hicke assumes his new role in Port Huron immediately. “We wish Shane the very best in Port Huron, and are happy for him to have this great opportunity to advance to the next level in the NAHL, noted Bruins President and GM. Beginning in 1996, Szabo was instrumental in the creation and prominence of the Troy High School varsity hockey program, coaching and developing local hockey talent until 2007. I am excited to be able to work with our players more directly to help them reach their personal goals in the game” added Szabo. While the major coaching change comes just two weeks from the Bruins open tryout camp on July 23-25 at Hobart Arena, Szabo is optimistic that with the success the Bruins enjoyed last season both on and off the ice, the 2010-2011 season will be even better. New to the Bruins but not the Miami Valley is Scott Family McDonald's, operators of McDonald's restaurants from Sidney to Fairborn, including every McDonald's in Miami County. Founded in the 1970's by Piqua resident Ben Scott, the company has expanded through the years in both number of restaurants as well as community involvement, and are very excited to be a part of the Troy Bruins and their efforts to bring family affordable entertainment to the area. Unlike McDonald's, Chipotle Mexican Grill hasn't been a member of the community for quite forty years yet, but their newest restaurant located in Troy's west side far surpassed initial expectations and even set a few opening records along the way to becoming one of the area's favorite Burrito. No stranger to being a community player, Chipotle is nationally recognized for it's local marketing and community relations, and are no stranger to giving away food for special events. Finally, the Bruins have a new home for the weekly Troy Bruins Coaches Show, as it moves to Frickers in Troy. While the dates have not been set just yet, Frickers is the region's home for great food and sports. In addition, Frickers commitment will place them on the back of every Bruins ticket sold this season, in addition to arena signage. "We are very excited to have three great national brands joining us for our upcoming season" noted Bruins Vice President JT Szabo, who negotiated all three deals. "Chipotle is one of the most successful restaurants in Troy, and having a local family business in Scott Family McDonalds strengthens our commitment to our community, while regional industry leader Frickers will allow our Coaches Show to thrive while creating a gathering place for Bruins fans all year long. We are very excited for the opportunities that these winning brands bring to us." The 2010-2011 season is right around the corner, and select sponsorships are still available.
